Healthy Resting Heart Rate:physically fit people. Resting heart rate will decrease with the heavy exercise or sports. Exercise or sports make heart larger and stronger. Calculating Resting Heart rate: The best time to find resting heart rate is in the morning, after a good night's sleep, and before getting out of the bed. Find a clock or watch with a second hand or second display and take pulse for 60 seconds. The heart beats about 60 to 80 times a minute. Resting Heart
Rate Scores: If resting heart rate is less than 60 per min then it is Excellent. If heart rate is between 70 and 79 per min then score is Average. If resting heart rate is more than 89 then physical fitness is poor. There are many factors that influence your resting heart rate, including stress, food, excitement, room temperature, and previous physical exertion. Therefore your resting heart rate should be taken while sitting quietly and not after participating in vigorous activity. Take it several times to make sure it is stable. Resting Heart Rate Limitations: Though low resting heart rate is suppose to be an indicator of fitness but is not a good measure according to study conducted. It is suggested to use that recovery heart rate which is dependable measure than resting heart rate for checking physical fitness. Calculating Recovery Heart Rate: It helps to know how long it takes to slow down heart after vigorous exercise. 1. After vigorous exercise stop and immediately place finger on the side of neck where pulse can be felt. Count pulse for only six seconds and multiply that number times ten to get heart rate per minute. 2. Wait exactly sixty seconds and then count pulse again for six seconds and again multiply that number times ten. Do not count pulse for more than six seconds because heart slows down immediately after exercising. 3. Check pulse again exactly one minute later. If heart does not slow down at least thirty beats per minute in the first minute, it indicates poor shape. If it slows down more than fifty beats in the first minute, it suggests excellent shape. Most highly trained endurance athletes have low resting heart rates. Most untrained subjects who participate regularly in a good aerobic fitness program will experience a decrease in their resting heart rates.
