Recovery heart rate:

Heart rate:

Heart rates are monitored to indicate how the heart is working. Any changes in the heart rate can determine causes of major illness or heart diseases which need to be cured. Also heart rate monitoring helps maintain good health and proper functioning of the heart by noting the monitored figures. This ensures safety, effective workouts and a strong and healthy cardiovascular system. There are three different types of
heart rates namely resting heart rate, working heart rate and recovery heart rate.

What is recovery heart rate?

A normal resting heart rate is 15 - 20 bpm slower than your usual heart rate. This fluctuates depending on the activity or other medical conditions especially during aerobic exercises or workouts. Heart rate should be measured during warm up, half way into workout, at the end of workout and at the end of cool down period. Recovery heart rate means the how quickly you return to your resting heart rate. This is calculated at the end of cool down period to ensure the benefit of exercises. Normal recovery heart rate is 120 bpm or lower.

How is recovery heart rate calculated?

Take your pulse ten seconds immediately after you have finished exercising. Write down the number. After one minute again take your pulse again and write it down. Now, subtract the number for the second pulse check from the number for the first pulse check. This number indicates your Recovery Heart Rate. If your count is 120 bpm or lower then you have a normal recovery heart rate. But if the number increases then next time your activity should be monitored to control the recovery heart rate.

Gadgets to measure heart rate:

Heart rate can be measured gently pressing one side of the neck with your index and middle finger until the pulse is felt. Each beat is counted to record the heart rate. Also you get various heart rate monitors that can calculate your heart rate automatically which makes the job even easier for you. They come in wide range and brands. You can select the one that you are comfortable with. By measuring the heart rate at different activity levels you can easily calculate the recovery heart rate.
